Transferring Hardware Between Accounts
This guide shows how to move a device, such as a Flex Logger, from the EXACT Portal account it is on now to another account. You start the transfer from the device's page, choose the new account, and confirm.
Only the device moves. The readings it has already recorded stay on the account it came from.
7 stepsUpdated Oct 21, 2026Version 2.0
Before you begin
- Level 3 access on the account the device is on now
- Level 3 access on the account you are moving it to
- The serial number of the device you want to move
In the screenshots, numbered marks show where to click for each step.
Transfer a device
Select your name in the top-right corner of the portal.
Select Hardware.
Select the serial number of the device you want to transfer.
To find a device quickly, type its serial number into the Search box above the list.
The Hardware page lists every device on the current account. Select Transfer at the bottom of the Device Information panel.
The device page. Transfer sits beside Edit, below the device details. Select the New Account field and start typing the name of the account you are moving the device to.
Select the account from the list.
The list narrows as you type. Each account shows its account ID in brackets. Warning
Check the account in New Account before you select Transfer. If you move a device to the wrong account, transfer it back from that account's Hardware page. Readings recorded while it was on the wrong account stay on that account.
Select Transfer to confirm.
Transfer becomes available once you select a new account.
Done. The device is now listed on the new account's Hardware page.
What happens after a transfer
The device
Is listed on the new account's Hardware page
Its historical data
Stays on the original account. It is not copied to the new account.
Elements on the original account
Show (M) after the device's serial number on every Element it was used in
Troubleshooting
I can't find Transfer on the device page
Only users with Level 3 access can transfer hardware. Ask your account administrator for Level 3 access, or ask a Level 3 user on the account to make the transfer.
The account I want isn't in the New Account list
You need Level 3 access on the account you are moving the device to as well as on the one it is on now. Check the spelling of the name you typed, then ask for Level 3 access on the new account if it still doesn't appear.
Transfer in the Transfer Hardware dialog is greyed out
No account is selected yet. Typing a name only filters the list. Select the account from the list and Transfer becomes available.
The device's older readings aren't on the new account
This is expected. Historical data stays on the account where it was recorded. Open the device's Elements on the original account to see it.
An Element shows (M) after a serial number
That device was moved to another account after it was used in this Element. The readings it recorded for the Element are still on this account.
